Informed Consent

Obtaining informed consent is a basic ethical obligation and a legal requirement for researchers. An informed consent document is typically used to provide subjects with the information they need to make a decision to volunteer for a research study. This information is most often presented in the form of a written document, but it may also be offered verbally by a member of the study team or in some other format understandable to the subject. Regulations and policy require that certain information be provided as part of the consent process. For research papers that include volunteers as a part of the research (e.g. medical research papers), the Authors must provide documents that clearly indicate the informed consent issue.

Animal Research

  1. For research conducted on regulated animals (which includes all live vertebrates and/or higher invertebrates), appropriate approval must have been obtained according to either international or local laws and regulations. Before conducting the research, approval must have been obtained from the relevant body (in most cases, an Institutional Review Board or Ethics Committee). The authors must provide an ethics statement as part of their Methods section, detailing full information as to their approval (including the name of the granting organization, and the approval reference numbers). If an approval reference number is not provided, written approval must be provided as a confidential supplemental information file. Research on non-human primates is subject to specific guidelines from the Weatherall (2006) report (The Use of Non-Human Primates in Research).
  2. For research conducted on non-regulated animals, a statement should be made as to why ethical approval was not required.
  3. Experimental animals should have been handled according to the highest standards dictated by the author’s institution.
  4. We strongly encourage all authors to comply with the 'Animal Research: Reporting In Vivo Experiments(ARRIVE) guidelines, developed by NC3Rs.
  5. Articles should be specific in their descriptions of the organism(s) used in the study. The description should indicate strain names when they are known.

Publishing Process

The Journal of Applied Science and Technological Trends (JASTT) follows a structured publishing workflow to ensure the integrity and quality of published research. Below is an overview of the steps from manuscript submission to publication:

  1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their manuscripts through the JASTT online submission system. Submissions must adhere to the Author Guidelines, including formatting and ethical standards.

  1. Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, the editorial office conducts a preliminary review to assess the manuscript's suitability concerning the journal's scope, originality, and adherence to ethical guidelines. This includes a plagiarism check using Turnitin software. Manuscripts not meeting these criteria may be desk-rejected within five working days.

  1. Peer Review Process

Manuscripts passing the initial assessment undergo a double-blind peer review by at least two independent experts. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript's scientific merit, methodology, and contribution to the field. The review process typically takes 2–4 weeks.

  1. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' feedback, the editor makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept: The manuscript is accepted as is.
  • Minor Revision: Authors are requested to make slight modifications.
  • Major Revision: Significant changes are needed before reconsideration.
  • Reject: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in JASTT.

Authors receive a decision letter outlining the reviewers' comments and the editor's decision.

  1. Revision and Resubmission

If revisions are requested, authors should address all comments and resubmit the revised manuscript within the stipulated timeframe. The revised manuscript may be sent for a second round of review, depending on the extent of changes made.

  1. Final Acceptance

Once the manuscript meets all requirements, it is formally accepted for publication. Authors are then asked to format their manuscript according to the JASTT template before proceeding to the production stage.

  1. Production and Proofreading

The accepted manuscript undergoes copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading. Authors receive a PDF proof to review and approve. This step ensures accuracy and allows authors to make final corrections.

  1. Online Publication

After final approval, the article is published online and assigned a DOI. JASTT publishes articles ahead of print, ensuring timely dissemination of research findings.

This streamlined process ensures that all manuscripts are handled efficiently and transparently, maintaining the journal's commitment to high-quality scholarly publishing.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

As an open access journal, JASTT applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) for each accepted article to cover the essential costs of high-quality publication. These fees support the infrastructure required to publish, distribute, and preserve scholarly content at a professional standard.

The current APC for local authors is IQD XXXXXX per article. For international authors, JASTT currently offers free publication without APCs.

Why are APCs charged?

JASTT is committed to maintaining editorial and production excellence. APCs contribute to:

  • Editorial Screening: Initial checks for formatting, plagiarism (Turnitin), and ethical compliance.
  • Peer Review Management: Handling double-blind peer review through editorial and reviewer coordination.
  • Production & Copyediting: Converting manuscripts into professionally typeset articles with formatting, layout, and DOI assignment.
  • Proofreading Support: Communicating with authors during the final proofing and formatting process.
  • Language Minor Editing: Refining grammar, academic tone, and overall clarity of the article.
  • Platform Maintenance: Technical support and website operations for manuscript submission, review, and publication.
  • Long-term Preservation: Indexing, metadata archiving, and DOI registration (via CrossRef) for perpetual access and citation.

Waiver Policy

JASTT recognizes that some authors may face financial limitations and strive to support global participation in academic publishing. As part of our commitment to equity and knowledge dissemination, the following waiver policy applies:

  • Authors from Low-Income Countries: May receive up to 100% APC waiver.
  • Authors from Lower-Middle Income Countries: May receive up to 50% APC waiver.

To request a waiver, authors should:
